Nick Schroeder ZW delivers some satisfying dream rips and drone auras here, each of them working in a distinct grammar of feeling as part of the album’s generally peaceful thesis. For most of the summer I preferred the exhilarating WBSTYN, a exercise in tension and release with a complex emotional grip. But lately I’ve been returning to the Happy Valley, where Z steers us through a vivid terrain in the manner of Eno/Budd’s ON LAND. A really rewarding record to give yrself over to for awhile, my infant ag Favorite track: Why Be Something That You're Not.
